Our Physician

A pediatrician
at home in two countries.

Dr. Naoko Matsumoto
Naoko Matsumoto, M.D.
Director · Board Certified Pediatrician (US & Japan)

Dr. Matsumoto was born and raised in Japan. After working as a pediatrician there, she came to the United States for research and ended up staying — marrying, raising her own children, and eventually becoming a pediatrician in America as well.

That experience of navigating a new medical system as a new parent shapes how she practices today. She knows how disorienting US insurance, school requirements, and care customs can be for families newly arrived from Japan — and how much it helps to be able to talk through everything in your own language.

Torrance's South Bay is home to many Japanese families: permanent residents, families on multi-year assignments, bicultural households, and everything in between. This clinic exists to support all of them through the full range of pediatric care — from the first newborn visit to the high-school sports physical.

She received her medical degree from Mie University in Japan, completed her residency at Children's Hospital Oakland, and holds a PhD from her work in renal physiology. She is board certified in pediatrics in both the United States and Japan.
